The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program is looking for a Project Coordinator for the HomeSpun: Smithsonian Indian American Heritage Project. This position is part-time temporary, no benefits, at 15-30 hrs. per week for six months. This position starts in July 2009, and is subject to renewal based on availability of funds. SCOPE OF WORK:

A. Project Coordination and Administration

  • Provide assistance to the Development Consultant in setting up fundraising meetings and follow up of potential donors to the HomeSpun project.
  • Maintain database of all funders and potential donors, program participants, community organizations, and draft correspondence. Assist in the development and preparation of informational packets and respond to inquiries from public regarding the project.
  • Develop and maintain a filing system of all meeting minutes, correspondence, and other project related documents.
  • Mail out information such as brochures, letters, and postcards to potential donors and participants.

B. Website, Special Projects, and Special Events

  • Assist the APA Program in any special projects or special events related to HomeSpun.
  • Assist in contacting and coordinating with guest speakers and promoting the event to the local and national community.
  • Provide assistance in the content update of the project website.
  • Perform any related tasks as directed by director, program specialist, and development consultant of the APA Program.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Familiarity and knowledge of Indian American culture, history, and community.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and familiarity with Web 2.0 preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
